Volkswagen, Ford, Subaru top list of safe cars
What’s shocking about the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s safest car list isn’t so much which cars made the list as which cars did not. You won’t find any models from the world’s largest manufaturer - Toyota -- on the list. Last year Toyota had eleven models, but this year, not even the best-selling Camry made the grade. The reason? Tougher standards, including new roof strength tests, and a “marginal” rating for Camry’s seats and head restraints.
Does that mean Toyota is not a safe car? Not at all. Every car sold in America meets the government’s minimum standards for safety. This list just recognizes the safest vehicles sold.
