The Maine State Legislature has given preliminary approval to a bill that would make it illegal for drivers of commercial vehicles to let their vehicles idle for more than five minutes.
Rep. Jon Hinck (D-Portland) says an idling prohibition would conserve energy and help curb pollution, according to the Associated Press.
The law would not apply to emergency vehicles or automobiles stuck in traffic.
